GAA anoraks were asking themselves when was the last time a team scored four points in a Leinster SFC final after Meath could only manage that amount against Dublin today.

The answer is 1985 when Dublin beat Laois by 0-10 to 0-4. The lowest tally previous to that was the three points Laois scored while conceding 4-9 against Meath in 1951. The Royals had to wait until the 33rd minute for their opening score from Bryan Menton, while full forward Mickey Newman was the only player in green and gold to trouble the scoreboard operator in a one-sided second half.

Dublin's 16-point winning margin this afternoon was slightly above the 14.5 average they have enjoyed in their last six Leinster finals. However, they were greatly helped on this occasion by a a wasteful Meath side who racked up 12 wides, dropped four shots short and hit the post twice. By contrast, Jim Gavin's charges posted just five wides - Paul Mannion also struck the post from a first half penalty - as they coasted to their 58th provincial title.
