SFC: Gore and Curtis star for Rathkenny

April 21, 2019

Rathkenny's Keith Curtis

Rathkenny 1-14  Longwood 2-9

Hot conditions in Trim provided the setting for the meeting of Rathkenny and Longwood in what turned out to be an ultra-competitive contest for the spectators.

Rathkenny had the better of the opening exchanges but were wasteful in front of the posts kicking three early wides.  Longwood got the scoreboard rolling with a goal on 7 minutes, but Rathkenny responded positively with two points on 8 and 9 minutes from the boot of Keith Curtis. Longwood stayed ahead for the majority of the game at this point adding another goal and four points before the break. Points from Ivan Lenehan and Keith Curtis left Rathkenny trailing by three at the break.

HT: Rathkenny 0-7  Longwod 2-4

The start of the second half ebbed and flowed with both teams trading early points but this was as good as it got for Longwood as Rathkenny pushed on to take a lead in the later stages of the game that they never relinquished. The early points were added by Curtis which was followed on by a goal and point by Jack Gore. The scoring was finished by the previously mentioned and Rathkenny took the two valuable points on offer.
