Gaeil Colmcille's Gary Arkins

Gaeil Colmcille 3-09  Wolfe Tones 2-11

Gaeil Colmcille met Wolfe Tones in the second round of the Teach Na Teamhrach Junior A Championship played in Nobber on Saturday evening.

Gaeil Colmcille got off to a red hot start when they hit the opening three scores in less time than it would take to get two ATM machines in the back of a trailer, thanks to a Conor Arkins point and two points from Gary Arkins who was playing in yet another farewell game for Gaeil Colmcille.

Wolfe Tones had drawn level by the 16th minute when they hit three unanswered scores of their own. A Danny McGovern point restored the Gaeils lead and when Gary Arkins found the back of the net on 19 minutes, Kells found some breathing space.

One minute later the Gaeils got their second goal when Stephen Reddy, with an inch perfect pass, split the Tones defence and found Dylan Roche who fired to the back of the net. Five minutes later in similar fashion, Gary Arkins found Roche again and he bagged his second goal of the game and third of this years Championship. Wolfe Tones added on a couple of points to leave it 3-04 to 0-05 at Half-Time.

When Niall Williams and Reddy got the first two scores of the second half ot looked as if the Gaeils had the game all sealed up but credit to the Tones who at one stage 11 points down got themselves back into the game with five scores in a row including a goal on 47 minutes.

A Reddy free steadied the ship but the Tones responded with a point of their own to leave four points in it with four minutes remaining. When Daniel Farrelly pointed a minute later, again it looked like the Gaeils were out of site but the Tones came back again and fired 1-01 in injury time to leave one between the sides and a nervy finish. Wolfe Tones pushed hard for the equaliser, but for some heroic defending by Ahmed Lawal dispossessed the Wolfe Tones attack and the referee blew up for Full-Time.
