FL Div 2: First win for the 'Ha'

March 25, 2019

Curraha's Gavin Coyle

Duleek/Bellewstown 1-8   Curraha 0-12

Curraha recorded their first win of the year in the A League Div 2 with a hard fought one point victory away to neighbours Duleek/Bellewstown.

A Curraha win seemed an unlikely outcome ten minutes from the end when they trailed by four points and were reduced to fourteen men after David Toner received a second yellow card. However two points each from substitutes Gavin Coyle and Sean Keogh drew the sides level before Podge O'Hanrahan held his nerve to slot over the winning score deep into injury time.

In a low scoring first half Andrew Coyle opened the scoring with a point for Curraha. Duleek /Bellewstown then began to dominate scoring five points without reply and could have been further ahead but for some wayward shooting and resolute defending from Niall Murphy, Phelim Dowling and Oisin Fay.  Points from David Coyle and a Neill Shortall free left the half time score reading :

Duleek/Bellewstown 0 - 5, Curraha 0 - 3.

The sides traded points after the resumption, David Coyle and a Sean Keogh free raising white flags for Curraha. A goal from the penalty spot midway through the second half put Buleek/Bellewstown in the driving seat with a five point advantage.  Brian Murphy and Podge O'Hanrahan then scored a point each before a pointed free gave the home side a four point lead. With their backs to the wall Curraha then dug deep scoring five points on the spin to come away with a deserved if unlikely win.
