Richie O'Sullivan St Vincents

Kilmainham 1-05 St Vincents 1-13

St Vincents continued their winning ways when they visited Kilmainham on Sunday morning. Although missing a lot of regular players, it was a chance to use the panel. A keenly contested first half left only two points between the sides at half time, 1-03 to 0-08. Richie O’Sullivan helped himself to four points inside seventeen minutes and was joined by his cousin Barry who scored 0-01, Leo Corry 0-02 and Robbie Lynch 0-01, just before the break.

The scoreboard operator could have had his lunch in the Headford Arms before being called into action sixteen minutes into the second half when Leo Corry fired over the first of his two second half points. Eoin Hand, a 49th minutes substitute for Martin Fox, extended the lead for St Vincents before late points from Patrick McGill and Bob Tallon and a somewhat fortunate goal from man of the match Leo Corry, left the final score 1-05 and 1-13.

The Ardcath men sit at the top of Division 3 along with Castletown.

Kilmainham Report

Kilmainham 1-05 St Vincent’s 1-13

In perfect conditions in Sunday, we welcomed last years beaten Junior Finalists to Kilmainham.

Kilmainham started the brighter and had their first point on the board within a minute from centre forward Seanie Mahon after a great pass from Johnny Quinlan. Harry Newman ensured Vincent’s didn’t get an early goal as he cleared his lines soon after. One of Kilmainham‘s moves of the game resulted in Mahon rattling the Vincent’s net.  A great ball from centre back Jamie O’Sullivan found Pat O’Sullivan who passed off to Fergal Black. Black found Mahon with a great ball and he slotted it away. Kilmainham had a lead  of 1-01 to after 0-02 after 6 minutes. There was great interplay between Kilmainham’s backs and forwards and got reward when they moved the quick and direct. Before half time Morgan and Newman added 2 more points to leave Vincent’s going into the break leading 1-03 to 0-08.

It took over 15 minutes for the 2nd half’s 1st score and it went the way of Vincent’s. Both teams made mistakes and both defences stood firm applying pressure to the forwards. It took 29minutes for the returning Freddie Newman to slot over Kilmainham’s 1st score of the 2nd half. As the game went into injury time, Vincent’s held a 0-12 to 1-04 lead. They then sent a high ball on top of Kilmainham goalie Terence Daly. With the sun in his eyes he still managed to get his fingers to the ball but it managed to creep behind him into the net. Kilmainham responded with a free from Newman leaving Vincent’s running out 1-13 to 1-05 winners.

The game was a more closely contested encounter than the score line suggests with Kilmainham’s passing game improving massively from the previous 2games.
