Junior D FC: Ratoath set up final date with Ballivor

September 24, 2018

Ratotah's Frank Coyne

Ratoath 4-06 Longwood 1-07

Ratoath continued their good form with a well deserved victory over a good Longwood side.

Ratoath started the brightest and got their first score with a free from Toirdealhac O’ Neill. After great play from Shane Mc Goldrick, O’ Neill furthered Ratoath’s lead with a brilliantly taken goal. Longwood continued to work hard and got off the mark with two points of their own. Ratoath looked dangerous when they went forward and stretched their lead with a goal from Robert Madden. Darren Lyons responded quickest around the box to flick home a lofted 45. Longwood pressed and deservedly got a goal on the stroke of half time.

Half time score Ratoath 3-01, Longwood 1-02.

Longwood started the second half the brightest and scored two points without reply. A great run from Philip Byrne ended in a brilliantly taken goal to sustain Ratoath’s lead. Ratoath’s defense worked hard and made it hard for Longwood to close the gap. Further points from Frank Coyne, Leigh Sullivan and Conor Cooley put and end to a Longwood comeback. Longwood pointed two frees, but a point from Byrne and a free from Cooley made sure Ratoath went through with a deserved win. Ratoath will now look forward to a county final against Ballivor.
