Ballivor's Brendan McKeon heads for the Moynalty goal

Ballivor 3-15  Moynalty 1-04

Ballivor extracted some revenge on Moynalty in Athboy on Friday night with a comprehensive victory to maintain their unbeaten championship record. As like the league final these two teams contested Ballivor came out of the traps like rockets. Ballivor isolated Adam Gannon in the full forward line early in the game and he caused the Moynalty defence all sorts of trouble.

Martin Healy opened the scoring in the first minute with a fine left footed effort. Gannon then started to terrorise the Moynalty defence scoring the next three points including some marvelous efforts. It took Moynalty until the 15th minute to get on the score board through a free. Then Ballivor hit the net following a flowing move which resulted in Gannon receiving the ball on the 45 before he turned his man and headed for the goals he beat a further three defenders before he was pulled to the ground resulting in a penalty. Brendan McKeon stepped up and after a two minute wait finished superbly to the keepers left. Moynalty then responded with a
point before a high ball into the Ballivor box was fisted to the Ballivor net to bring Moynalty back into the game with five minutes of the first half remaining.

Ballivor then showed bottle to respond with three fine scores. Brendan McKeon scored a left footed effort from a tight angle before after patient play from Ballivor the ball was worked to Joseph McLaughlin who pointed from distance. The scoring was finished off by a Brendan McKeon point to leave it 1-07 to 1-04 at halftime.

Ballivor came out in the second half like men possessed. Once again Gannon got them going in the second half with two quick points before a Brendan McKeon free stretched the lead to six points. Then came Ballivors second goal as Moynalty attacked they met a Ballivor defence who hit them hard and dispossessed them Ballivor then moved the ball quickly up the field and following some neat passing Mark Healy found himself one in one with the Moynalty keeper and he cooly finished to the net.

Ballivor were now in control and really pushed on refusing to show their opponents and mercy. Not to be out done by his brother Martin Healy then scored 1-2 finishing expertly to the net as his brother had minutes before. Moynalty were now a well beaten team and every time they attacked they were met with aggressive
tackling from a tenacious Ballivor defence that held Moynalty scoreless in the second half. Ballivor finished the game with three points through Martin Grundy and two from Brendan McKeon.

It was a magnificent performance from a Ballivor team that showed they will not be easily stopped.
