SFC: Dunshaughlin ease past Gaels

Blackhall Gaels Stephen Morris with Adam Kealy Dunshaughlin during the Meath SFC game at Pairc Tailteann.

Dunshaughlin had a comfortable 4-10 1-9 victory over Blackhall Gaels at Páirc Tailteann on Sunday afternoon.

Dunshaughlin 4-10  Blackhall Gaels 1-9

Tadhg Ó Dúshláine had a field day for Dunshaughlin as he kicked 2-5, 2-2 from play.

Through-out the first 15 minutes of this contest both sides traded scores to leave it at 3 points appiece, Sean Whelan's outside-the-boot score being the pick of the bunch.

However, from this point on Dunshaughlin dominated and outscored the Gaels 2-3 to 0-1 up until half-time, with Tommy Johnson being involved in both goals. He set up Ronan Gereghty for one and scored one himself to leave Blackhall stunned.

Whelan scored a free just before the referee blew for half-time, which left the score at 2-6 to 0-3 in Dunshaughlin's favour.

Stephen Morris pointed to give Blackhall a good start to the half, but it was wiped out immediately. A fisted goal scored by Tadhg Ó Dúshláine from a high ball sent in by Geraghty looked to have ended the game as a contest.

The Batterstown, Mulhussey and Kilcloon combination responded well though, with 4 points without reply from Whelan, former county man Donnacha Tobin (2) and Paul Kelly (free).

They conceded a penalty mid-way through the half, but Tommy Kinsella sent it over the bar for a point to stretch Dunshaughlin's lead.

A Paul Kelly goal for Blackhall gave them life in the dying minutes but it was quickly cancelled out by the duo that created Dunshaughlin's last goal. Geraghty once again set up Ó Dúshláine for a green flag to end any thoughts of a Gael's comeback.

Points from Ó Dúshláine and Geraghty rounded off the scoring before James Kelly was sent off after acquiring 2 yellow cards.

The result gives Dunshaughlin their first win of the SFC and they will be full of confidence heading into their Round 4 match-up with Seneschalstown, while its back to the drawing board for Blackhall who are without a win in this years Championship. Reigning champions Simonstown are up next for them.
