SFC: Ratoath tops in Sean Newman Park

Ratoath moved in to pole position in Group C of the Meath SFC with this five point win over Rathkenny at Sean Newman Park.

The pace of Joey Wallace and Bryan McMahon gave the Rathkenny rearguard plenty to think about in the opening half. The county duo posted the first two scores of the game before Caolach Halligan registered a point for the men in red and black. Halligan kicked another three points for Rathkenny before the break but Ratoath went in at the break 0-7 to 0-5 in front thanks to fine scores from McMahon, the Wallace brothers and Keith McCabe.

McMahon extended Ratoath's lead with the first score of the second half before Gavin McGowan cut throughgh for the games only goal. With 15 minutes gone Ratoath had opened up a nine point gap but they failed to score for the remainder of the game. Rathkenny enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the closing ten minutes and were rewarded with scores from Halligan (3) and Donal Curtis.

Next up for Ratoath are Wolfe Tones while Rathkenny face Moynalvey in Round 4 of the SFC.
