SFC: Kells on top in battle of the towns

July 30, 2018

Brian Hanlon Gaeil Colmcille

Gaeil Colmcille 4-08  Navan O'Mahony's 0-08

It was the battle of the town's in the wonderful facilities at Kilmainhamwood as Gaeil Colmcille and Navan O'Mahony's met in the third round of this year's Senior Championship. Brian Hanlon was to be the hero for Kells bagging an impressive 2-04.

Gaeil Colmcille got off to the perfect start thanks to Hanlon finding the back of the net in the opening minute. O'Mahony's responded well and after seven minutes there was just a point between the sides as Navan scored the next two points in a row. The remainder of the half was low scoring with Kells outscoring Navan 0-03 to 0-01 thanks to points from Hanlon (2) and Oisin Reilly to leave the Kells men 1-04 to 0-03 ahead at half time.

Gaeil Colmcille once again got off to the best possible start, with a brilliantly worked goal finished by Seanie Curran on 32 minutes. One minute later and Kells got their third goal of the evening thanks to Martin Barrett. The third goal left ten points between the sides and it looked like it was to be Gaeil Colmcille's day.

If the result was in doubt, on 40 minutes Hanlon got his second goal of the game and left the score 4-04 to 0-03 going into the final third. Navan O'Mahony's would win the final third of the game as they outscored Kells 0-05 to 0-04 with points coming from Hanlon, Curran and substitutes Fionn Ferguson and Fionn Reilly.

Gaeil Colmcille move to four points now alongside Summerhill and Skryne, who they'll face next in Round 4.
