Bhulf Tón 2-12 Gaeil Colmcille 0-10
Deirtear gur …."tús maith leath na hoibre"….. agus b'shin a tharla I Scrín aréir.
Tones opened the scoring early through Alan Fox and they raced into a 4 point to one lead after 12 minutes. Tones continued to dominate the half with free flowing football and when Rossa McDonnell goaled after some fine work by Charlie McGarry and David O'Neill they lead 1-7 to two points with 10 minutes remaining in the half. Further points from Alan Fox, Gearoid Ó Brien and Thomas Blaney left the half time score at 1-10 v 0-3. Killian O' Brien also chipped in with 3 points in the opening half one particularly fine effort in the 19th minute.
The second half seen Gaeil Colmcille up the tempo and the physicality and they seemed to catch the Tones men a little cold early in the half. Sean Power had to pull off three top class saves as Gaeil Colmcille ran through the Tones defence in the first 12 minutes. It took 13 minutes for Tones to score in the second half and it was David O'Neill who latched onto a sweeping move to score. This left the score 1-11 v 0-5 after 45 minutes. Kells continued their efforts and four points in succession had them trailing by 5 going into the final stages and their confidence was growing.
Bhulf Tón then began a move in their own half and lovely interlinking play from Gordon Beggy & Alan Fox set up Thomas Blaney and the Demailestown man finished sweetly to the net to finish off the Kells resurgence in the 29th minute. Killian O'Brien added another insurance point to his fine tally and the Tones were on the home strait.
The referee played 5 minute of additional time but there was no way back for Gaeil Colmcille and Tones ran out 2-12 to 0-10 winners. This was a good competitive game of football. The Tones performance was strongest in the first half but overall it was a balanced team showing, main men on the evening were Sean Power, Aenghus 'Billy' McLoughlin and minor footballer Gearoid O'Brien.
