Michael Flood gains possession for St. Brigids against Moylagh

St Brigids met neighbours Moylagh in the much anticipated championship local derby on Friday evening. What was expected to be a tense and exciting match did not disappoint. 

Both teams started the game looking for their third win of the championship  and determination was evident on both parts.  Moylagh were first on the scoreboard however St Brigids were quick to respond putting over 4 unanswered points. A netted penalty from Michael Flood and a well placed goal from Padraig Plunkett put the Brigids in a positive position at the half time mark with a 7 point lead.

The second half began with  Moylagh down to 14 men but come out fighting and narrow the score line to within 4 points. However the 10th minute seen Padraig Plunkett's ball into Conor Farrelly result in a third goal for the Brigids. With the momentum rising St Brigids began to dominate possession, and put over a further 8 points to ensure that they left the pitch with a win over their neighbors for the second time this year.

A enjoyable game of football from both sides. And a great display of team work and skill from the Brigids who are going from strength to strength.

Moylagh Report

Moylagh 0-14 St Bridget's 3-14

Played in Millbrook on Friday evening both teams were coming into this game with two wins from two outings in the championship.

It took seven minutes before Peter Fox got the first score of the game, but the St Brigid's men hit back with five unanswered point to lead by four points by the twentieth minute. Moylagh responded with two points from Tommy O Reilly and Sean Reilly to close the gap to two before they lost full back Jimmy Boyle to injury.

St Brigid's finished the half very strong scoring two goals one from the penalty spot and a fine worked second, things got worse for Moylagh before the break who had Kevin Foley harshly sent off for a second yellow card offence.

Moylagh now playing the remainder of the game with fourteen men started the second half brightest kicking the first three points reducing the lead down to four points and a come back look on the cards. 

Just as the men in green seemed to be getting into the game St Brigid's hit another major to kill off any Moylagh hopes of a comeback and went onto win out comfortably in the end. 

Moylagh must now regroup for their round four game against Clonard and get their championship campaign back on track.
