JFC: Carnaross too strong for Drums

July 28, 2018

John L McGee gains possession for Carnaross against Drumconrath

Carnaross 4-21  Drumconrath 0-06

Carnaross and Drumconrath met in round 3 of the Junior Championship in a repeat of last year's quarter final battle where Carnaross emerged victorious by 6 points.

This year's encounter never came close to matching the intensity and ferocity witnessed in HQ last year.  Sadly for Drumconrath, player numbers in training and match day panels have decreased massively and affected their competitiveness accordingly.

The match began with both sides attacking at will with Carnaross moving the ball well through the hands and the Drums utilising the kick pass to good effect. Drumconrath lead by the minimum (0-02 to 0-01) after 5 minutes before John L McGee rose highest to fist home his brother's handpass. This ignited the Carnaross onslaught and Frank O'Reilly doubled their goals tally after good build up play by the Carnaross forwards. Carnaross laid siege to the hapless Drums defence knocking over a further 7 points before half time through Porter (3), John L (2), Cormac O'Reilly (2) and midfielder Cian O'Reilly. The contest was over before half time as Drumconrath struggled to get to the pace of the game.

The game continued in the same vain in the second half as any trace of intensity or competitiveness trickled away as the minutes elapsed. Carnaross kicked a further 2-13 in the second half ensuring every single score came from play: Cian O'Reilly (1-1), Charles Brogan(1-0), Porter (0-3), Frank O'Reilly (0-3), John L (0-1), Cormac O'Reilly (0-1), Thomas Nugent (0-1), Dermot (0-1), McDonnell(0-1.)

It was a futile result where The Ross will take 2 points from this drab encounter and move on to tougher tests that lie ahead.

All in Carnaross GFC wish the Drumconrath centre forward a speedy recovery after a nasty looking knee injury forced him off the field. Carnaross' Junior C team take to the field tonight and look to continue the club's unbeaten record in championship football this year against local rivals Cortown.
