Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-9 Kiltale 0-9

Donaghmore Ashbourne's Intermediate hurlers got their Championship off to a perfect start with a comfortable victory over Kiltale in Pairc Tailteann.

Pucking against a strong breeze in the first half Don/Ash limited their opposition to just two points from play.

Martin Quinn's early free had the Moores ahead before Kiltale struck the next three scores.

The returning Colm O'Méalóid levelled it before Quinn grabbed a second sandwiched between another two Kiltale points.

In injury time of the first half, trailing by three points, Mark Lynch's side grabbed a crucial goal.

After a long pass into the full forward line caused havoc, Danny Deery's side-footed shot was blocked on the line. His second effort was blocked as far as Conor Carey, who finished to the net.

HT: Don/Ash 1-03 0-06 Kiltale

With the wind at their backs, Don/Ash rallied, with Jack Butler, Carey and a brace from O'Mealoid putting them in firm control of the game.

Kiltale were reduced to 14 players early in the second half after a second yellow for Kyle Benson after a high challenge on Daragh Walsh, who would later be taken off with a head injury.

Kiltale would answer with the next two scores but were sunk by a second Don/Ash goal.

When O'Mealoid got the ball in his hand after it dropped inside the 21, he was surrounded by defenders. He stepped back, steadied and blasted it into the opposite corner past Ollie Regan.

Oisin Mulhall tacked on another score, before Deery's angled effort raised the final white flag to seal the win for Don/Ash.
