June 11, 2018

Stephen Nolan - Duleek Bellewstown

Duleek Bellewstown 3-14 Rathkenny 1-8

Duleek Bellewstown continued their unbeaten run when running out convincing winners over a weakened Rathkenny in Duleek.

Despite the visitors being short their county representatives and other mainstays of their squad their final tally does not reflect their contribution to what was a very enjoyable hour's football.  The most notable feature for the visitors was the number of wides they produced and if their shooting was a bit more accurate then the final score line would have been much different.

Steven Nolan opened proceeding with a point directly from the throw in and the result was effectively secured in the first quarter when the home team gained a 10 point cushion with two goals from Steven Nolan and further points from Shane Crosby and two from John Flood.  Three further points late in the first half from Michael Dowling, Shane Townley and a John Flood free  had extended the lead to twelve by the break with a sole point being scored by the visitors on twenty one minutes.. The gap at the break would have been a lot closer had Rathkenny brought their shooting boots and with a total of 10 wides they will reflect on the overall result.
Rathkenny attacked straight from the throw in the second half and were rewarded with a penalty which was calmly dispatched .Straight from the Kick out Michael Dowling secured possession after a series of interchanges and pointed. The visitors continued to press however but were frustrated by their finishing and final passes leading to another series of wides and turnovers. The result was in no doubt when Shane Townley   scored the third Goal after 10 minutes and this was followed by further points from Brian Moore and two from John Flood.

It was only in the final quarter than the Rathkenny found the range and they produced 5 points on the bounce to bring some type scoreboard reward that their efforts deserved.  The home side completed their evening's work with a Jamie Crosby point and two further points from Steven Nolan.  Rathkenny completed the scoring with the last kick of the game
