Peter O'Connell gains possession for St Michaels during the Division 2 FL clash with Dunderry in Carlanstown

St. Michaels 0-16, Dunderry 0-13

St. Michaels strengthened their mid table position with this hard earned but deserved victory over Dunderry in this their second league match in three days in Carlanstown last evening. This was a closely contested affair throughout with no more than three points the difference at any stage.

Dunderry opened the scoring with a point on 40 seconds however it all went according to plan for the remainder of the opening half for St. Michaels with Shane McCormack (0-4), Peter O'Connell and Davy Lynch (0-2 each) putting them 0-8 to 0-5 to the good at half time. The Dunderry side can thank their 'keeper David Jennings for pulling off a excellent save from a goal bound shot from Oran Meehan that would have put six between the sides at the interval.
Dunderry popped over the opening point of the second half, this was quickly followed by a great effort from Peter O'Connell. In a hectic four minute spell in the third quarter Dunderry punished the St. Michaels indiscipline with three converted frees, some of which were brought forward by referee Paul Mooney as the home side disputed his decisions, Davy Lynch finished off a great run with an excellent point to keep his side in front and Christopher Drew popped up from centre back to put two between the sides once again. Dunderry responded immediately and leveled the match for the third time with two points from play in as many minutes, McCormack edged his team back in front with a lofty effort from 35m and J.B. O'Reilly put two between the sides with 10 minutes remaining. Two pointed frees from the visitors followed to level the match once more but that was their final scores of the match as St. Michaels closed out the game with Jamie Reilly on target and McCormack taking his tally to 0-7 for an excellent return and a deserved victory.
