Wolfe Tones 1-11 Kilmainham 1-10

Cluiche breá spóirtiúil a bhí ann. D'imir na fóirne thar barr le cabhair na gaoithe agus cé go raibh Kilmainham ag teach tar ais go láidir d'éirigh le Bhulf Tón an bua a bhaint amach.

This was indeed a game of two halves where the dominant team in each half was wind assisted and dominated the scoring in Kilberry. Tones with the aid of the wind in the first half led by 1-9 to 0-1 at half time and had so dominated possession that a second half comeback by visitors Kilmainham seemed unlikely. However Kilmainham restricted their hosts to two points in the second half and chipped away at the deficit. They had clawed their way back to within four points with ten minutes remaining  before Seán Lynch steadied the Tones with his fourth pointed free of the evening in the 53rd minute. Kilmainham refused to yield and launched attack after attack but would regret 3 wides from their next four attacks leaving four points between the teams at the end of normal time. They needed a goal but Paddy Heneghan saw his goal effort rebound off the crossbar before Paddy Quinlan slotted a penalty on the stroke of full time to leave the minimum between the sides following a very exciting closing quarter.

All of Tones best performances came in the first half with Adrian Sheridan and Aonghus Mc Loughlin pulling the strings in midfield. Matty Melady was always dangerous and could have added to his 1-2 tally but crashed the ball off the crossbar as he burst by his man in typical fashion. Seán Power made a brilliant stop in the first half and given the turnaround in the second half this was a vital save. Gearóid O Brien, Patsy Caffrey and Mark McFadden also impressed and there was no shortage of effort all round as the home side held out for a narrow victory.
