B FL Div 2: Second win for Skryne 3rd's

Skryne's Felim O'Rourke

Trim 1-10 Skryne 3-08

Skryne's third team put in a battling second half performance to condemn Trim to defeat and bag their second win of their B League Division 2 League campaign.

The conditions were far from ideal and in truth the pitch should probably have been deemed unplayable. It was a blessing that both teams got through the game without picking up any injuries.

Skryne got off to a blistering start and had a goal and a point on the board inside the first four minutes with man of the match David McGoldrick rattling the onion bag. However, Skryne struggled to get any further traction on the muddy Trim pitch in the first half and registered only one other score in the half, a point from Ciarán Finnerty. Meanwhile Trim racked up seven points to lead at half-time on a scoreline of Trim 0-07, Skryne 1-02.

Manager Nigel Fox rallied the troops at half-time and Skryne came out fighting in the second half. Three points from Sean Cassidy, David Mc Goldrick and Allan Carty, with a single from Trim saw the sides level as they approached the midway point of the half. Skryne's second goal of the game came courtesy of Ciarán Finnerty who received the ball on the edge of the large parallelogram and blasted it past the keeper to give Skryne the lead.

They added to this lead five minutes later with a fortuitous goal from Skryne goalkeeper Felim O'Rourke. Felim trotted up the pitch to take a 45 for Skryne no doubt looking to slot the ball over the bar, but he scuffed his shot and the ball instead took a lower trajectory through the crowded penalty area deceiving all along the way and ending up in the back of the Trim net.  Two pointed frees from Kesha Reilly extended Skryne's lead to eight. Trim grabbed a goal of their own with six minutes remaining on the clock and followed this up with a point to shave the gap to four. David McGoldrick got Skryne's final score, a fine long range point to widen the gap slightly and keep Trim at arms length. Trim managed only one further point as the game reached a conclusion. Full-time score: Trim: 1-10, Skryne 3-08.

Trim Report

Trim 1-10, Skryne 3-8

Trim's B league side experienced their second defeat of the campaign in St Loman's Park on Thursday night. Weather conditions were perfect but the underfoot conditions were very soft and difficult to play good football. Nevertheless both sides went at it 'hammer and thongs' and served up an exciting game.

Skryne raced out of the traps and were 1-1 up after five minutes. Centre  forward Ciaran Joyce settled the Trim nerves with a point in the sixth minute and that was followed by a further four scores from Eoin McGrath, Aaron Lynch, Declan Dowling and Joyce in a three minute period. The visitors brought the game back on level terms with a point in the 20th minute but the Trim lads had a superior final ten minutes banging over two points from veteran Eoin McGrath and the youngster Aaron Lynch to go in at the break  0-7 to 1-2 in front.

On the resumption Skryne clocked up two points before Aaron Lynch landed a free in the sixth minute. The Tara men then had the better of the remainder of the third quarter and were rewarded with 1-1 to forge three points in front. There was a lapse in the scoring until the 20th minute when Skryne once again upped the tempo and hit 1-2.

The Trim lads made a recovery of sorts when they immediately struck 1-1, the goal coming from the boot of Aaron Lynch and the point from centre half back Darryl Phelin to leave four points the difference with four minutes remaining. Both sides traded points in the final run in leaving the full time score at Trim 1-10, Skryne 3-8.

Other than the scorers the standout players for Trim were Alan Carey, Cian Walsh.
