Donaghmore Ashbourne's Darragh McGovern

Donaghmore Ashbourne 1-9 Navan O'Mahonys 1-9

Donaghmore Ashbourne and Navan O'Mahonys went toe to toe in this 3rd round league game played in a cold and windswept Ashbourne.

O'Mahonys pointed within 3 minutes of the throw in with Don/Ash replying with a Kevin Fenton point a minute later. O'Mahonys then worked their way down to point again with Don/ash replying with a Darragh McGovern goal. Paul Gilligan added a free before O'Mahonys tagged on 2 more points. Don Ash kept in touch with a free from Kevin Fenton and Navan closed out the half with a free of their own. Half time score was 1-3 to 0-5 in favour of the home side.

The second half had a fiery start with Don/Ash coming out and scoring a point within a minute courtesy of Leo Reilly. Another free for Gilligan on 36 minutes kept the pressure on although Navan replied with a free and another point from play to take a one point lead. Navan then had a player sent off for an off the ball incident spotted by the referee and Don/Ash pressed on, scoring a point off the boot of Bryan Menton on 46 minutes to level the match. Despite playing against a strong wind, Navan rallied scoring 3 points in a row before Bryan Menton kicked a superb score 4 minutes from the end to bring his team back into it. With the clock ticking down, Don/Ash managed to mount another successful attack allowing Dylan Brady to reduce the margin to the minimum. With the last play of the game substitute Stephen Carton sent the ball over to level the game before the final whistle went.

A draw was probably the fairest result in a hard fought game.
