Drumree pay tribute to the late Vincent O Hora

The late Vincent O Hora

Just over 6 weeks ago the late Vincent O Hora passed away suddenly on the 5th October 2017. This was the second body blow that the Drumree GAA club received within a week, following so close to the sudden passing of Jimmy Walsh.

Over the past number of weeks we have exchanged many stories about Vincent and his popularity was reflected in the huge crowds that turned up to pay their respects and he was the first Dunshaughlin person to be laid to rest in the new graveyard.

Vincent was a committee member of Drumree GAA and a club delegate to the County Board. He also served as Juvenile chairperson in 2012 and 2013. In his role as club delegate he rarely missed a County Board meeting and was assiduous in his reporting back of relevant information to the committee. As a committee member Vincent was always available to help out at every event which the club ran and frequently his knowledge and expertise in matters IT was of great assistance to club members. At a recent committee meeting before his passing the matter of displaying the postcode for the pitch was raised in order to assist emergency services if the need arose. Nobody at the meeting knew the postcode but as the meeting progressed, Vincent located it on his phone and put it on the committee whatsapp group.

He loved hurling and regularly attended Meath home hurling matches. He was a great supporter of Drumree hurling and camogie games and while he was never loud on the sideline he thought deeply about the games and had great and strongly held views on Meath and Drumree hurling and camogie.

Vincent had Wicklow connections but was a true blue Dublin supporter.

Vincent will be greatly missed at County GAA level as a regular attendee at the monthly meetings and annual conventions. He will be particularly missed in Drumree GAA as a great supporter and one of the dependable foot soldier that are the heartbeat of all GAA clubs.

There are many stories we could tell about Vincent and I am sure all who knew him whether it was through his work, as a neighbour in the Ardlea estate or as part of Drumree GAA will have their own.

Vincent is survived by his wife Edel, his children Muireann, Béibhinn, and Sárán, his mother Cecelia and his sister Therese.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
