Simonstown Gaels 0-12 Summerhill 0-9

Simonstown Gaels reached the final of the A League division 1 tonight after defeating Summerhill.

Simonstown opened the scoring through Roz O'Connor and Padraig McKeever. The 'Hill' responded withtwo well worked scores from play and Podge McKeever added to his tally in the 9th minute. Halfway through the first half the scoreline read Simonstown 0-3 Summerhill 0-3. The First half was very tight throughout with Summerhill scoring some super points from long range. Summerhill could have been ahead at the half-time but Robbie Burlingham saved smartly and tipped the ball over for a point. Simonstown's Podge McKeever added a further 3 scores to his tally and Nicky O'Brien entered the scoresheet on the 25th minute. Halftime score Simonstown 0-7 Summerhill 0-6.

It took Simonstown 10 minutes of the second half to score and Summerhill 20 minutes. The introduction of Neil 'Squealer' Kane proved to be significant with Kane scoring twice in the second period. Nicky O'Brien and Podge McKeever also added to their tallies in the second period. The game appeared to be won with Simonstown 6 points to the good with 10 minutes remaining. However, the referee awarded 'Summerhill' 3 frees and gave them a questionable penalty in added time. Summerhill's Brian Ennis was the man in charge of the spot kick. His effort was saved brilliantly by Simonstown keeper 'Robbie Burlingham'. Amazingly the rebound struck the crossbar and the Gaels were able to escape with a victory, thanks to the heroics of keeper Burlingham.

Simonstown play neighbours Wolfe Tones in the final, a repeat of this years SFC semi final.
