U15 Div 4 semi final: Kilbride advance

November 16, 2017

Kilbride's Harry Keenan

Wolfe Tones 3-2    Kilbride 2-12

Kilbride travelled to Wolfe Tones on Sunday morning for the Under 15 Division 4 semi final having lost to their hosts in the league stage of this competition.

Kilbride got off to an excellent start with a super individual point from Ruadhan Coffey breaking from his defensive position. This was followed by a goal and a point from a dominant Zack McGovern.  Wolfe Tones replied with a goal of their own, before Kilbride pushed forward and added 2 more very good points from Conor McWeeney and Brian Donnelly. With Half time approaching Kilbride's Zack McGovern scored his second goal of the day after an excellent individual piece of play, after which Ben Donnelly kicked a super point to leave Kilbride in a strong position at half time leading 2-5 to 1-0.

Wolfe Tones started the second half strongly adding an early goal and Kilbride struggled to add a score to their tally. Kilbride's goalie Paul Hayes handling was faultless throughout the match and provided the platform for his defence to withstand the comeback that was to come. The Tones hit the net again and the deficit was brought to 3 points before Kilbrides Josh Harford and Ben Donnelly released some of the pressure to score a point each. It was nail biting stuff as the Tones pushed on and brought the gap to 2 points after two points of their own. But Kilbride were to finish the stronger with Harry Keenan, Timmy Farrell and Andrew McWeeney strong in defence and Mark Dempsey providing good link up play in the forwards they finished with a flourish of scores in the final 5 minutes with Ben Donnelly kicking 3 vital points and Mathew Brodrick adding another leaving the gap at the finish at 7 points.

The Kilbride lads now move onto the final Sunday week against either Longwood-Clonard or Curragha-St Vincents.
