St. Michaels 0-5, Donaghmore/Ashbourne 3-7
While playing into the teeth of a strong wind St. Michaels ladies completely capitulated in the second half of this Divinity tile and Bathroom intermediate semi-final in Ashbourne on Saturday evening last.
Both sides were evenly matched in the opening half but were guilty of some bad wides and the St. Michaels girls should have had more on the scoreboard while playing with the wind to their backs. Two points apiece from Seona Lynch and Sinéad McCormack was all they could muster to leave it all square at the break, 0-4 each.
Seona Lynch got her sides only score of the second half on 37 minutes but when the home side opened their second half account five minutes later to level the match there was no stopping them thereafter. Their opening goal came on 40 minutes and they added a brace of goals in the final four minutes.
The eleven point margin of defeat is a touch harsh on the St. Michaels girls as they were better than their scoring return suggests and those two late goals by the winners added gloss to their already impressive tally.
St. Michaels team & scorers: Sarah Bradley; Marita Rogers, Ellen Cassidy, Aine Sheridan; Mary Carpenter, Mary Clinton, Lorraine Curtis; Sinéad McCormack (0-2), Marion Farrelly; Alicia Curtis, Erin Lynch, Seona Lynch (0-3); Emma McDonnell, Laura Duignan, Megan O'Brien. Subs: Yvonne Farrelly for Duignan 30 minutes, L. Duignan for E. Lynch 55 minutes.
