Gaeil Colmcille 1-08 St. Patrick's 1-07
Gaeil Colmcille came out on the right side of this tight battle in this A League match played in Stamullen on Thursday evening.
Team captain Martin Barrett led by example lining out at corner forward a day before his marriage to Stephanie Roche.
It's was St. Patrick's who would get off to the brighter start going to 0-02 to 0-00 up early on until a point from Oisin Reilly settled the Kells men into the game who played into a stiff breeze in the first half. On 15 minutes Reilly would get his second score of the match but Kells still trailed St. Pats by 0-04 to 0-02. The game swung Kells way in the closing stages of the first half when Brian Hanlon dispatched a penalty to leave Kells 1-03 to 0-04 up at half-time.
In a stop start second half St. Pat's crawled their way back into the game and drew level on 34 minutes with a goal leaving the sides 1-04 a piece. Points from Reilly and two free kicks from Brian Hanlon seen Kells go one point up with 7 minutes remaining. As the clock went over the 60 minute mark St. Pat's drew level with a great score from distance against the wind but there was to be time for a winner when Kells worked the ball well from Justin Carry-Lynch's kickout down the field and ball eventually landed to substitute Fionn Ferguson, who from just inside the 45 yard line pointed to give Kells the win.
Next up for the Kells men is a trip to Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim on Friday for the wedding of corner forward Martin Barrett and his fiance Stephanie Roche. From all at the club we wish them the very best today and in the future.
