St. Michaels Anthony Briody heads for the Cortown goal during the B FL Division 3 game in Cortown

St. Michaels 3-06 Cortown 0-15

A  share of the spoils was the fairest result after this entertaining match in Cortown last evening which produced some great passages of play and some superb score taking however both sides were guilty of some very bad misses.

Cortown got off to a good start with two points in the opening two minutes, Ben Farrell who top scored for St. Michaels soon levelled matters. Both sides exchanged points to level again on nine minutes before Cortown took control of matters and fired over the next 6 points without a reply from the visitors who went 20 minutes scoreless. Shane McCormack reduced the deficit to three points on the stroke of half time when he connected with a loose ball in the Cortown goalmouth for his sides opening major to leave his side trailing by 1-03 to 0-09 at the break.

Cortown opened the second half as they did in the first with a point after 20 seconds, however they too went into sleep mode and failed to raise a flag for the remainder of the third quarter although they were denied a couple of goals with some excellent shot stopping by Gavan Sweeney between the St. Michaels posts.

Ben Reilly and Ben Tobin got St. Michaels off the mark in the second half before Reilly neatly tucked the ball in the Cortown net for a one point lead, however the home side came back up-field to level the match for the third time on 46 minutes. Ben Farrell converted a penalty after the hard working Anthony Briody was brought down in the square to go three in front. In a hectic and exciting final ten minutes Cortown maintained their challenge and momentum to peg back three unanswered points to level the match once again on 59 minutes but there was still time for Ben Farrell to put his side back in front but Cortown's next attack resulted in the final score of the match and a deserved share of the points.
