Horan relishes new task

April 05, 2007
Former Mayo footballer James Horan may have won two All-Stars and graced Croke Park on numerous occasions, but the new manager of Ballintubber believes that he is as excited about his new role as he was about any highlight in his GAA career. Horan has been handed the task of guiding his native club back to the senior ranks and keeping their status in Division 1 of the football league. Having played with Mayo for many years, the talented forward knows the demands of the inter county scene only do well, but he admits that the preparation of a club team is almost as intense. "I honestly don't think people appreciate the amount of time people put into the GAA these days. Take Ballintubber here as an example; we will train Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday as well as a game on Sunday," said Horan. "Plus the lads will have to be in the gym one or two nights during the week too. That's a serious commitment from players and management, and your circumstances have to be able to accommodate it."
