Conor Mortimer celebrates his Connacht final goal against Galway

Former Mayo star Conor Mortimer says that trouble has been brewing in the Mayo senior football camp for some time now.

It came to the surface over the weekend when Noel Connelly and Pat Holmes were informed that the players had no confidence in them and, speaking to The Irish Daily Star, the Parnells clubman was reluctant to point the finger of blame at the management team.

"It's hard to lay blame on their shoulders - they were hired and the clubs voted them in, as well as the chairman.

"I knew this was boiling up for quite a while but I don't think it's down to anything specifically performance related.

"There's a lot of other stuff that goes on and you couldn't say in the Dublin game that it was the line that lost it.

"I know for a fact that people are laughing at this situation. Here are Mayo again, airing their dirty linen in public.

"It's always bloody Mayo."

Another former Mayo player, Martin Carney, told RTE: "If the players have issued a vote of no confidence in the management, who do they want in their place?

"This time last year we were told they didn't want one of Kevin McStay's coaches (Liam McHale) in the set-up.

"Now they don't what this particular management. Who have they got in mind?

"What manager in his right mind would want to come in and manage Mayo now?"
