Mayo midfielder Jason Gibbons was not part of the travelling party that has jetted to Portugal for a training camp.

Gibbons and Darren McHugh are the only members of the squad not to travel as they continue their rehabilitation from long term injuries.

Last weekend, Gibbons togged out with his club, but injured his hamstring in the latest setback for the talented player.

The squad jetted out to Browns Sports and Leisure Club in Vilamoura last Monday and are due to return on Saturday. This is not the first time that they have attended this venue as they are also there in 2012.

Mayo chairman Mike Connelly stressed to the Mayo News that the training camp will be taken seriously throughout the week.

"This is no sun holiday, everybody is going there to work," stated Connelly. "The players will train twice a day and they know that they are going over there to step up their preparations for the championship in June.

"In terms of budget, it costs approximately €10,000 per week to train the team. The squad didn't train last week, which was a saving of €10,000, and this week's budget will go towards the training camp as well."
