A knee problem is set to rule Cillian O'Connor out of Mayo's penultimate Allianz Football League Division 1 game away to Cork on Sunday week.

"He has a tendon issue under his kneecap and it requires rest," joint-manager Pat Holmes explained to the Mayo News following last Saturday's heavy defeat by Dublin.

"He's probably be out for three weeks anyway. We just have to monitor it."

Holmes admitted that Mayo would need to take a long hard look at why the defence was so porous against the Dubs.

"When you get beaten like that, there'll always be questions about the way you set up and the way you played defensively.

"But in the first four National League games, our defensive record has been very, very good. But today, offensively and defensively, we were well beaten. So you can go into the minutiae of it and look at the smaller points of the defensive systems or offensive systems.

"The bottom line is that we came out second best in nearly every aspect of the game," he added.
