Former Sligo footballer Eamon O'Hara has been confirmed as Ballaghaderreen's new senior football manager.

O'Hara had been tipped to take the reins at the Mayo club in recent weeks, with his appointment being made official late last night.

The 39-year-old is considered to be one of Sligo's greatest footballers, having earned an All Star award in 2002 before helping steer his county to a historic Connacht senior championship in 2007. His career with the Yeats County would span 19 years before eventually hanging up his boots May 2013.

Ballaghaderreen captured a third county championship title in their history two years ago, and with former Mayo captain Andy Moran still amongst their ranks expectations remain high, further still now with O'Hara's appointment.

The Tourlestrane club man follows former inter-county players such as Roscommon's Shane Curran and John Keane of Westmeath in recently taking over club sides other than their own in their first managerial roles.
