Connacht PP Schools SF A final: Ruddy too hot for 'Curry

March 15, 2014

There was plenty of action from the Post Primary Schools competitions today.
St Gerald's, Castlebar 3-11
St Attracta's, Tubbercurry 3-7

A Philip Ruddy hat-trick of goals helped St. Gerald's, Castlebar to a dramatic comeback victory over St. Attracta's, Tubbercurry in today's Connacht PP Schools SF 'A' final.

Ruddy broke Attracta's hearts with a brace of late goals after the Sligo side had raced into a seemingly unassailable 11-point lead early on. In between those goals, Castlebar were reduced to 14 players when Robert Comer was red-carded.

Two Jason Perry penalties either side of Darragh Kilcoyne's three-pointer had propelled Tubbercurry into a 3-2 to 0-1 lead after just a quarter of an hour. But Ruddy's first goal reduced the deficit to six points, 3-2 to 1-2, before St. Gerald's added four more points to trail by 1-6 to 3-4 at the interval.

St. Attracta's were still on course for victory when leading by 3-7 to 1-11. But Ruddy's late heroics won it for the Mayo side who will meet Pobalscoil Corca Dhuibhne of Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final on 29 March.
