Alan's Sports Extravaganza

In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

ALAN'S SPORT EXTRAVAGNAZA TAKES PLACE IN THE UNIVERSITY OF LIMERICK
IN AID OF THE IRISH KIDNEY ASSOCIATION

In honour of the late Alan Feeley of Claremorris, Co. Mayo 'Alan's Sports Extravaganza' will take place in the University of Limerick on Saturday 2nd August 2014 to raise awareness and funds for organ donation in Ireland.

Organ donor, Alan Feeley (28) died tragically after suffering a brain haemorrhage on Monday 11th November 2013, leaving behind his parents Willie and Kathleen, three siblings and a community in mourning.

By carrying an organ donor card, Alan also created a legacy with six of his organs used to save the lives of five others. In signing his donor card Alan knew the potential impact he could have on someone's life. What he didn't know, was the impact his decision would have throughout the country. In the immediate aftermath of his death the Irish Kidney Association (IKA) reported an 8 - 10 fold increase in the requests for donor cards via their Freetext service. Approximately one in six of these requests came from the Limerick/Mayo region.

A PE teacher of Scoil Na Trionoide Naofa, Doon, Co. Limerick, Alan was a stellar example of someone dedicated to the promotion of sport and its health benefits through both his career in education and in his personal life.

Alan's Sports Extravaganza is a daytime event taking place on the 2nd August 2014 in the University of Limerick's North Campus sport facilities. The event will centre on a tag rugby tournament but will also involve a diverse range of other activities including aerobic classes, kettle bell classes, weight lifting, tug of war, all of which will promote a healthier lifestyle and organ donation on the day.

That evening will see guests hosted by Mícheal Ó Muircheartaigh and the Feeley family at the 'Slick and Stylish' ball which will take place in the South Court Hotel, Limerick. Attendees will enjoy a three course meal, an awards ceremony and prizes for best dressed on the night.
