MacHale Park to host Connacht final?

Mayo could have home advantage for the Connacht SFC final on July 21.

James Horan's men will discover after next Sunday's second provincial semi-final between Leitrim and London if the decider will be in MacHale Park, which hosted their semi-final win over Roscommon yesterday.

With Dr Hyde Park ruled out for health and safety reasons and the Connacht Council insistent that the final must be played at a venue with a capacity in excess of 20,000, MacHale Park and Pearse Stadium in Salthill are the only venues in the province which meet that criteria.

Hyde Park has hosted the last two Connacht finals, but has since had its capacity reduced to 18,000 following the findings of the Slattery Report. Yesterday's game attracted a crowd of 19,867, but the Connacht final attendance may not exceed that figure given Mayo's status as unbackable favourites to win their third Nestor Cup on the trot.
