Mayo's financial worries have been eased significantly after creditors agreed to write off over €600,000 owed to them by the county board from the redevelopment of McHale Park.
The debt-ridden Mayo board owed over €1.6 million for outstanding costs relating to the €18 million redevelopment of the Castlebar venue, but a deal has been struck with the primary creditors, including main contractor Mountain View Securities, that will see them pay just €1 million to settle outstanding debts.
The Mayo News reports that the board is also due to meet with the Ulster Bank this week to discuss a financial plan to enable them to meet their repayments on a continuous basis. In total, Mayo GAA received €10.5 million in loans from the bank and Croke Park. County secretary Kevin O'Toole revealed that repayments will amount to a maximum of €590,000 per annum from next year.
"The financial situation isn't over, but it is under control provided we can keep raising the money we are raising now," he said.
