Mayo hurling manager Murt Connolly
Mayo manager Murt Connolly feels that his charges can upset the odds and defeat Down in the Christy Ring Cup.
The sides meet in the opening round of the championship next Saturday afternoon and the Ulster side go into the game as favourites, despite their league form that saw them relegated to division 2B.
However, Connolly stated to the Western People that if they can field their strongest team then they have a chance of defeating the Mourne County at Castlebar.
"This Mayo team is a match for anyone on their day," stressed Connolly. "They have great potential, but need consistency and the clinical edge to win when the opportunity is in front of them.
"Meath and Kildare ended up in the league final and we played very well against both of them. We know how good Down are. They were Ulster champions two or three years ago and are a very talented team."
