All-Ireland club IFC semi final: Conroy on song

January 23, 2012
Davitts corner forward Michael Conroy scored 0-8 as they defeated Eire Og Greystones by 2-12 to 0-6 on Sunday.

The Mayo and Connacht champions were unstoppable as they cruised past their Wicklow and Leinster counterparts to book their place in the All-Ireland final.

Conroy gave a man of the match display and his tally outscored Eire Og's scoreline as they couldn't handle the elusive corner forward.

Davitts had a strong breeze behind them in the first half, but Eire Og stuck with them for most of that opening period before Conroy played in Fergal McGrath for the opening goal of the match.

This left the scoreline at 1-8 to 0-2 by half time and Eire Og had their work cut out to make up that deficit in the second half.

To their credit, Eire Og scored after just 30 seconds of the restart as the impressive Darren Hayden played in Daniel Wood for a fine point, but a few minutes later, Davitts killed the game off when David McDonough capatilised on a mistake by goalkeeper Lorcan Traynor and scored their second goal.

It got worse for the Wicklow side as in the 54th minute defender Stephen Kelly was dismissed on a second yellow card as Davitts cruised home.
