Friday night slot for FBD League final
January 18, 2012
This year's FBD Connacht League final between Mayo and NUI Galway is expected be played on Friday week, January 27 under lights.
It follows a request from NUI Galway to the Connacht Council that the game be brought forward from the Sunday as they are playing in the first round of the Sigerson Cup on the following Tuesday, January 31. Mayo are believed to be agreeable to the new date and the final looks set to take place at either McHale Park, Castlebar or Flanagan Park, Ballinrobe, which are both floodlit venues.
Meanwhile, Mayo manager James Horan wasn't entirely pleased with his side's comfortable win over GMIT last Sunday.
He said in the Mayo News: "We started the game very well which is an important thing for us based on last year. We're focusing on that quite a lot.
"But when we got four or five points up we definitely eased off the throttle a little bit which is disappointing. But when we do move the ball early we're dangerous. The second half was very disappointing. We stood off our men and let them back into the game a little bit. Overall, plenty to be encouraged about but plenty to work on as well."
