Connacht U21FC: Mayo edge into last four

March 11, 2010
Mayo 0-13
Leitrim 0-9

Neil Douglas and Alan Freeman combined for 0-8 as Mayo booked their place into the semi-finals of the Cadbury Connacht Under 21 Football Championship after defeating underdogs Leitrim at Cloone.

Leitrim started the brighter team with points from Kevin Conlan and Adrian Coal, but after Aidan O'Shea, Douglas and Shane Nally raised white flags the teams were on level terms by the 13th minute.

Mayo rallied before the break though and through Nally they had a 0-7 to 0-5 advantage to work with in the second-half.

Freeman and Douglas pushed the Westerners further in front after the interval before a spirited Leitrim side rediscovered their scoring touch through the points of Conor Cawley, Shane Flanagan, Conlan and Croal to reduce their deficit to two points.

Mayo still had enough in the tank though and through Douglas and their Man of the Match Freeman they rattled off the insurance points in the end.
