Mayo GAA Cathaoirleach launches Mayo Comórtas Peile Tournament

Cathaoirleach of Mayo GAA James Waldron was on hand this week to officially launch the 2010 Mayo GAA Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta tournament, which takes place in Cill Chomáin GAA grounds in North Mayo on March 13th and 14th this year.

Speaking about the Comórtas James Waldron stated that the competition is one of the most important tournaments in the country and that with TG4 and RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta now broadcasting the finals live it is a great chance for players and clubs to shine on the national stage.

"Tá peileadóiri cosúil le Billy Joe Padden, Colm Cafferkey, Mickey Sweeney, Steven Carolan, Chris Barrett, Fintan Ruddy agus go leor eile theis dul ón gclub go dtí an fhoireann Contae tar éis imirt sa Chomórtas Peile anseo i Mhaigh Eo" a deir Waldron.

"Tá na clubanna Gaeltachta anseo i Maigh Eo an láidir faoi láthair. Tá Acaill, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, Béal a' Mhuirthead, Cill tSeadhna, Cill Chomáin agus Baile an Chaisil ag déanamh go maith agus is iontach an rud é go bhfuil an comórtas seo ann," a deir sé.

Dúirt Philp Ó hEireamhóin CLG Chill Chomáin go raibh chuile rud réidh aníos don chomórtas agus go raibh an club ag tnúth go mór leis an deireadh seachtaine. "Beidh fíor fháilte roimh chách," a deir sé. "Tá CLG Mhaigh Eo go mór taobh thiar den Chomórtas seo agus tá súil againn go mbeidh cluichí agus coimhlint den scoth i gCill Chomáin," a deir sé.

Chairperson of the Mayo Comórtas competition Piaras Ó Raghallaigh stated that 2010 was a very important year for the Mayo Gaeltacht clubs with the National Comórtas Finals coming to Belmullet over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

"Belmullet GAA club deserves great credit for the amount of work they are undertaking to have everything right for the National Finals. They have being preparing for over three years to host the competition and their new pitch, dressing room facilities, spectator areas and all other development works at their new grounds is a credit to the club and the people of the parish," he stated.

Mayo GAA Oifigeach na Gaeilge Deaglán de Priondargais thanked all the Gaeltacht clubs for their continuous support and interest in the competition at the launch this week. "Tá CLG Mhaigh Eo go mór taobh thiar den Chomórtas seo agus tá súil againn go mbeidh an-dheireadh seachtaine againn i dTuaisceart Mhaigh Eo" a deir sé.
