West Mayo get the nod for SFC place

February 04, 2010
Newly-amalgamated club West Mayo has been given the go-ahead to take part as an extra club in the Mayo SFC this year.

The club, made up of representatives of Islandeady, Balla, Parke and Louisburgh, was drawn in Group 3 of the SFC on Wednesday night.

There, it will face the daunting task of lowering the colours of defending champions Charlestown.

As the 17th club in the Senior grade, West Mayo has been given immunity from relegation for 2010 after a proposal to prevent the club from taking part in the group stages, instead advancing to a preliminary quarter-final, was vetoed.

The four individual West Mayo clubs will still participate in the Mayo JFC.
