Mayo fear O'Shea departure

Mayo's Aidan O'Shea
Fears are growing in Mayo that teenage star Aidan O'Shea could be persuaded to sign an AFL International Rookie contract in the coming days. The 19-year-old Breaffy clubman flew out to Australia last Sunday for a two-week trial with Melbourne-based clubs the Richmond Tigers and the Western Bulldogs, having given Mayo manager John O'Mahony his word that he would not sign for either club until this time next year at the earliest. But with next Wednesday's deadline for International Rookie signatures fast approaching, O'Shea could come under pressure to sign. Speaking to the Irish Daily Star, players' agent Ricky Nixon refused to be drawn on O'Shea's future. "He hasn't said anything about that and I haven't said anything about that. I don't really want to comment on it. We will see how the trial goes. He is a big boy and I think he will be well suited to our game." O'Shea is staying with Western Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson and admits he has been impressed with the set-up at the Whitten Oval. "The players here are top-class and the facilities are brilliant," he said. "The first morning was a bit tough, but I definitely enjoyed it."
