Davitts GAA Club notes
November 18, 2008
After a long season, the minor team captured the division 2 league title, with a great 0-13 to 1-7 victory over a gallant Swinford side, in a tremendous game of football, played in difficult conditions, in Clogher last Sunday. Swinford were the better team in the first half, and led by 1-5 to 0-5 at the interval, and it could have been worse for the Davitts lads but for an excellent save by keeper David Mitchell on the stroke of half time. With twenty minutes remaining, and Swinford leading by 1-7 to 0-7, Davitts began to gain the upper hand, playing with great intensity and with a lot of style, and fired over six unanswered points before the final whistle, to claim the title. David Mitchell had a sound game in goals, a position he shared with David Connolly over the season. Jonathon Clarke and Michael Waldron were immense in the half back line, with team captain Kieran Mooney, Kevin Gallagher and David Ryan defending as if their lives depended on it. Tommy Mitchell and John Heneghan won plenty of ball at midfield. Up front Davitts had two great leaders in Fergal McGrath and Keith Prendergast, both giving top class displays from start to finish. They got good support from the hardworking Liam Kearns, Josh Ronayne, Mark Ronayne and Richie Kilkenny with Darren Connolly and substitute David Hyland also having their moments. Davitts team: David Mitchell, David Ryan, Kevin Gallagher, Kieran Mooney, Michael Waldron, Jonathon Clarke, Mark Ronayne, Tommy Mitchell, John Heneghan, Josh Ronayne (0-1), Keith Prendergast (0-9), Liam Kearns, Darren Connolly, Fergal McGrath (0-2), Richie Kilkenny (0-1). Subs David Hyland, David Connolly, Fergal Rattigan, John Paul Clarke and Jason Connolly. Regular wing back Donnacha Geraghty was unavailable due to injury.
