Kelly dejected after defeat

November 13, 2008
Ballaghderreen manager Frank Kelly was at a loss for words following his side's dramatic exit from the Connacht club SFC at the hands of neighbours Eastern Harps. The Mayo champions looked to be cruising through to the final as they started brightly and built up a healthy four-point lead, however, Harps kept plugging away and through the inspirational Paul Kelly, they reeled in Ballagh' and lead by three points at the final whistle. It was a major disappointment for a Ballaghderreen side that had high hopes of winning a Connacht title and Kelly admitted that the loss was hard to take. "I'm very disappointed," lamented Kelly. "We'd prepared well for this game, had worked hard, and were looking forward to it. We missed a few chances, but I had spoken to the players about not giving conceding frees. With a player of the quality of Paul Taylor around, you can't afford too. "But, we did concede quite a number of frees and they got a lot of scores from them. We never really got the full control around the centre of the field either." "I congratulate the players on the effort that they put in. We, as a management team couldn't have asked any more of them but I did feel that we were good enough to get to a Connacht final."
