Former Dublin captain Collie Moran reckon Mayo could be in for “a long evening” at Croke Park on Saturday.

James Horan’s men travel to headquarters this weekend looking to tear up the script against 1/5 favourites Dublin and, writing in his column for the Irish Daily Star, Moran feels it’s a game the All-Ireland champions have been waiting for.

“This is the match Dublin have been ­waiting for all summer and that could make for a long evening for Mayo in Croke Park,” the Ballyboden St Endas’ man wrote.

“The biggest risk to Dublin is that they enter the game undercooked after getting to this stage without having to hit anywhere near top gear.

“They got no challenge in Leinster again, their first Super  8s game was played on a lovely sunny evening and there was no intensity on the pitch or in the Croke Park stands against Cork.

“The Dubs weren’t putting in the kind of tackles and ­work-rate we’d expect from them and yet they won the game comfortably. Against Roscommon, the match was over pretty much after Dean Rock’s goal and the Rossies were reduced to 14.

“They fielded what was essentially a second-string team in Omagh last week and won. So the team that will line out this weekend got to this point without having to be at their best. Mayo’s hope will be that they can catch them cold.”
