Facing the 'second best team in the country' is a challenge welcomed by Limerick manager Billy Lee.
The Shannonsiders entertain Mayo in the first round of the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers at the Gaelic Grounds next Saturday, June 9th at 6pm.
Having lost out heavily to Clare in the Munster SFC, Limerick go into this clash as massive underdogs against the Connacht side who were defeated by Galway in the provincial campaign.
Mayo are expected to win this game comfortably and Lee acknowledged the size of the task facing them, but added that the players are looking forward to it.
"It's a difficult assignment - based on the 2017 championship standings we are playing against the second best team in the country." said Lee.
"They (Limerick players) will look forward to it. Why wouldn't you look forward to it - these are the days that you play for sport."
