Lee Keegan has spoken about the horror injury sustained by his Mayo team-mate Evan Regan against Kerry on Saturday.
The Kingdom - who finished with 13 men - came away from Castlebar with both points and it has emerged that Regan will be ruled out for the rest of Mayo's league campaign:
"Evan Regan got a bad injury at the weekend, so that could curtail his league campaign," Keegan is quoted in The Irish Times. "I thought he was doing okay in the game. I thought he had a good game against Monaghan also. But he got a bad tackle at the weekend . . . and he got a bad outcome; a broken jaw. He's going to have to try to look after that for a couple of months anyway.
"I was literally in line with it. It was bad, now, I have to say. I was chatting to him yesterday and he was in a bad way still. I know he got a bit of bad news, he has to get surgery now, I think.
"That's the outcome of it which is unfortunate because it was a prime opportunity for him to put his name in there and try to get a starting spot for the championship."
A Mayo County Board statement confirmed. "Evan sustained a facial bone fracture and concussion injury. He is receiving appropriate treatment and follow-up with specialists opinion early this week".
