Bernard Mulligan - St Josephs

St Josephs made it two wins from two when they came out on top against Glen Emmets at Cluskey Park on Thursday night last on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-5.

There wasn't much between the teams in the early stages and a point from the Emmets' Andrew Mooney brought the teams level at two points apiece on ten minutes. However, the Joes then took command and with the help of four points from Alan Quigley and a Craig Doherty goal the home side were ahead by 1-7 to 0-2 at the break.

Within five minutes of the restart the game was made safe as Derek Mulligan and Alan Lynch hit the back of the net. The Joes then reeled off a number of points as they cruised to victory against an Emmets team that finished with three late points.

Hunterstown kept pace at the top of Division 2 table when they scored a comprehensive 3-15 to 1-6 win at home to Young Irelands.

The opening quarter was evenly contested but a goal on 18 minutes from Brendan Lennon saw the home side take a 1-6 to 0-3 advantage into the half time break.

The Young Irelands cause wasn't helped by the loss of Peter Nixon to injury after just five minutes and their hopes all but disappeared 20 seconds into the second half when Alan Landy struck for the second goal.

Padraig Matthews added a third while Cian O Naraigh scored a consolation goal for the Dundalk men.

O'Connells picked up their first win of the campaign when they were 1-16 to 1-12 winners over Oliver Plunketts at Mell.

The visitors were first off the mark but a Shaun Bannon goal saw the Plunketts take an early lead. However, the O'Connells finished the half on top and a goal from Sean Cairns saw his side lead by 1-10 to 1-5 at the break.

The Bellingham side stretched the gap to seven points midway through the second half and although the Plunketts finished strongly it was too late to deny the O'Connells a deserved win.

Nh Fionnbarra joined the teams on maximum points when they came out on top at home to O Raghallaighs on a 1-11 to 2-5 scoreline.

A penalty goal from Bernard Osborne had the Barrs 1-3 to no score ahead in the opening ten minutes but the Drogheda men struck back with a goals from Ben Rogan (penalty) and Eoghan Moore to level the game at 2-2 to 1-5 at the break.

The hosts dominated the third quarter and opened up a five point gap when Woods struck on 48 minutes. The O Raghallaighs came back to within three points and were also denied by a fine Andy McCann save before the Barrs sealed the win.

St Fechins recorded a 4-14 to 1-11 win at home to Na Piarsaigh to continue their strong start to the season.

Mark Larkin struck an early goal for the visitors but the Fechins came back well and a goal from Danny Burnell helped them to lead by 1-10 to 1-8 at the interval.

The point scoring  of Alan McCartney helped keep Na Piarsaigh in the game in the third quarter but goals in quick succession from Ronan Holcroft and Bevan Duffy effectively ended their challenge. There was still time for Duffy to add his second goal to seal a 12-point win.

St Brides edged a closely contested local derby by the narrowest of margins on Sunday afternoon in Pairc Mochta as they emerged with a 3-7 to 0-15 win.

The visitors were the better team in the first half and went in at the break leading 2-6 to 0-8 with the goals coming from Sean Marry and a Patrick Reilly penalty.

Although only scoring twice in the second half, a goal and a point from Sean Brennan, compared to the hosts seven points. St. Brides held on to win by a solitary point.

Declan Byrne kicked ten points for the Mochtas - nine from placed balls - but it wasn't enough to rescue anything from the game.
