Lee Crosbie St Kevins

Louth Junior Champions, St Kevins, got their Division 3 campaign off to a winning start when they claimed a 3-19 to 1-13 victory over John Mitchels at home on Saturday night.

The Mitchels arrived in determined mood and raced into a 0-4 to 0-2 lead before the Kevins really got to grips with the game. The hosts tagged on six points before Darren McMullen hit the net to help his side take control and they went in at the break leading by 1-11 to 0-6.

Seconds after the restart, Paul Duff extended the gap with a second goal. The Mitchels continued to battle and were rewarded with a goal from Mikey Nulty but Lee Crosbie raised a green flag at the other end to seal victory.

Meanwhile, St Brides got the better of Nh Mairtin on a scoreline of 3-11 to 2-12 in an entertaining contest at Monasterboice on Tuesday night.

The Knockbridge side were in impressive form in the first half and hit the net through James Costelloe, Cathal McKenna and Aaron Hoey. However, Eamon McQuillan gave his side hope when he replied for the Mairtins to cut the gap at the break to 3-7 to 1-6.

The Mairtins had the wind in the second half and gradually cut the gap before a Greg Fahey goal from a penalty left the game all square with ten minutes remaining. In the closing stages it was the Brides who dominated and late points from Aaron Devin, Michael McKenna and JamesCostelloe helped them to victory.

Nh Malachi needed a last minute point from Collie Rooney to secure a 1-9 to 0-11 win over Sean McDermotts in Mountrush.

The hosts had got off to an excellent start and were leading by 0-5 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Mals were given a lifeline when Ciaran Hughes scored the only goal of the game to help his side lead by 1-5 to 0-6 at half time.

The Courtbane men increased the gap to 1-8 to 0-8 but the Seans hit back with points from Tony Kelly (2) and Kevin McMahon to level the game on 54 minutes. Both sides had chance to win it but it was Rooney who held his nerve to send over the winner.

Roche Emmets had Barry O'Hare to thank for securing a 3-10 to 4-7 draw for Roche Emmets in a highly entertaining contest away to Glyde Rangers.

Kevin Callaghan gave Roche the perfect start with an early goal followed soon after by another from Barry O'Hare. However, the home side hit back and struck three goals in the final seven minutes of the half from Trevor O'Brien (2) and Aaron Devlin to take a 3-5 to 2-4 lead at half time.

The teams traded scores in the third quarter before a Niall McArdle goal had Roche in front, but the lead changed again in the closing minutes when Ciaran Sheridan hit the net from a penalty. However, Roche battled back and claimed a point thanks to O'Hare's late free.

Dowdallshill were another side who managed to battle back for a draw as three late pointed frees from Aidan McCabe saw his side finish level at 1-10 to 0-13 at home to the Westerns.

The Reaghstown men had the better of the early exchanges and went into a 0-8 to 0-3 lead but a goal from McCabe helped the Hill to cut the gap to 0-8 to 1-3 at the break.

Dowdallshill went ahead early in the second half but with the help of scores from Anthony Durnin, Ciaran Scriven and Trevor Baylon the visitors looked on course for victory when they led by three with just minutes remaining. However, three pointed frees from McCabe, who finished with 1-8, saw the Hill claim a valuable draw.
