U12: Dundalk Gaels run riot

July 23, 2016

Dundalk Gaels   3-13   Roche Emmets 0-1

Dundalk Gaels u12 welcomed their Roche Emmet's counterparts to the ramparts on a lovely Friday evening for round 7 of the u12 league. From the offset the Gaels team took the upper hand resulting in some lovely interplay which would have seen more scores but for the resolute defending of the Roche rear guard especially their keeper who made some outstanding saves. Eventually the pressure paid off with some fine scores registered courtesy of Ciaran Walsh and Liam O'Connor, their hard working half forward line. It was the turn of full forward Ryan Coleman to add further to that tally and although the Gaels were well on top Roche always looked dangerous when they counter attacked. This meant the Gaels defence had to be on their toes but with the half back line of Daniel Brogan and Cian Walsh impressive in their reading of the game and their interventions supported impressively  by the full back line of Jack Mullen and James Haughey winning plenty of ball their keeper Preston Keating was well protected. This left the score at half time 3-4 to 0-1 in favour of the home team.

The second half again saw the Gaels take up where they left off with everyone to a man fighting for every ball and making it difficult for the Roche team to make any gains. In fairness to Roche they never gave up and consistently threatened the Gaels goal and but for a bit more rub of the green would have had more scores on the board. The Gaels midfield of Conal O'Callaghan and Oran Mulligan were relentless in work rate, Robert Kilgallon excelled in his vision and distribution with Oisin Woods winning plenty of possession and using it well.  Conor Weir up forward and Patrick Curley in defence adding further to the teams efforts when they were introduced but altogether a strong and skillful all round team performance by the home team.  Roche for their part had plenty of fine footballers on display and could have had a lot more on the score board if chances were taken. A great game played in the right spirit by both teams.
