FL3 round-up: Glyde and Westerns are two-from-two

Glyde Rangers are top of Division 3 on score difference after victory over St Nicholas at Tallanstown made it two wins from two outings.

The Nicks competed well in the opening quarter and were still in contention until the 25th minute when Shane Sharkey scored the opening goal of the game to send his side in at the break leading by 1-8 to 0-2.

Glyde ensured the remained in charge with a number of quick-fire points early in the second half to put the game beyond their opponents. Substitute Ciaran Sheridan added a late goal to seal the 2-11 to 0-5 win and ensure his side moved to the top of the table.

The Westerns also made it two wins from two games when a lively start to this clash in Reaghstown helped them to a 4-7 to 1-4 victory.

Stephen Boylan hit the net for the hosts on five minutes later followed two minutes later with another from Aidan McGarrell. County player, Tommy Durnin, then got in on the act as he fired in the third before the break to see his team take a healthy lead of 3-3 to 0-2.

Durnin grabbed his side's fourth goal in the second half to put the game beyond doubt before a battling Stabannon earned some consolation with Colm Giggins goal.

Nh Malachi got their first win of the league campaign thanks to a gutsy performance in Mountrush as a late goal from Pierce Caherty clinched an impressive 3-10 to 1-10 win over Sean McDermotts.

Colin Rooney put the visitors in charge of the game with two first half goals, but just before the break Lorcan Myles hit the net from a penalty to reduce the deficit to 2-3 to 1-5 at the short whistle.

The McDermotts hit the lead early in the second half but the Malachis hit the front again before Caherty's late goal put an end to any hopes of the home side making a comeback.

Lannleire opened their Division 3 season with a 2-11 to 2-7 victory but needed four late points to see off the determined challenge of the John Mitchels.

The Dunleer men were leading by 1-5 to 0-4 at half time but the Mitchels fought back and levelled the game thanks to goals from Robbie Coyle and Diarmuid Durnin. However, it was Lannleire who finished the stronger to take the points.

Dowdallshill recorded their first league win of the year with a 1-7 to 0-8 victory over Wolfe Tones in St Brigid's Park.

The vital score of the game arrived after only three minutes when centre half back Paul Flynn in his first game back after injury got on the end of a flowing move to send the ball to the net. That give the home team a lead they were not to relinquish.

Leading by two at half time and the aid of the breeze to come confidence was high but a number of wides in the second half kept the visitors in the game to the end.
In the remaining fixture, St Kevins were given a walk-over by Cuchulainn Gaels.
